New sata hard disk not detecting

Specs: xp, c2duo/2GB
Help me im already having 80 gb IDE hd......yesterday i hd bought a new sata 250gb hd...the problem is,it is not showing or identify my new hdd in bios.Its working fine in my friends pc

you have to set your bios to recognise the sata drives..its probably set only to ide.. try unplugging the ide from the mobo then attach the sata and boot.

i hate computers!

Just check if you connected it to one of the SATA ports and not to e-SATA port. e-SATA port may be disabled in bios. If so, enable it.

Apart from this, right-click Computer and click Manage...

Click Disk Management. Disk Management console opens.

You must see your new SATA disk there. You can partition and format the disk at this console.

It is also possible (if the above does not help) that your board disables one or two SATA ports when you are using an IDE drive so you can try a different SATA port also.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
