Specs: win xp 64 bit, 64 bit desktop
I just purchased a gateway laptop in December,
& recently started using it since it was packed in storage warehouse for 4 months.
I have installed a usb flatbed fan & checked if virus programs are conflicting.

It keeps crashing after booting every day & than after even restarting the OS it still crashes exactly after 30 min?
I have done safe mode reboots
ran several virus cleans programs
cleaned up temp files
Can't think of anything else. Any help appreciated ?

While the system is booting (before Windows starts loading) press F8 and select "Disable automatic restart on system failure". Wait for the system to crush again; does a blue screen appears on the screen. If so, also post back the error code given at the bottom of the screen (i.e. 0x0000007E)

Since you just purchased it in December, take it back. Give them one chance to make it right, after that demand a new one.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

The Gateway NV5387u has a Turion CPU & DDR2 memory so it was already "old" when you bought it. I'm guessing it was used rather than brand new?

ProbFixer well after crashing another time, the blue screen comes up & I disabled automatic restart on system failure.
It says something about caching & shadowing, disable video adaptor (this is a laptop), check if manufacturer has any updates for BIOS.
Any help appreciated?

Use compressed air to blow out the fans. I had a similar problem, even added a USB fan. Only thing that helped was the compressed air

none
