Are both computers the same Windows version and same bit type? Either 32 or 64 bit is the choice.

Unplug printer USB cable.
Delete current printer icon as well as any old printers you do not use.
Reload printer software from disk, or better from their website. If you download the software (recommended) make sure you select the correct version of your operating system (Windows 7 32bit or 64bit, etc.). At the correct time during the installation it will ask you to plug in the printer to complete the installation.
If you plugged in a printer prematurely in Windows 7 then Windows will load generic drivers for the printer and repeating the process will only use the same driver, typically and in this case specifically the wrong one.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

no they aren't but the problem turned out to be a win7 issue, the software for printer was OK it was the windows not talking to printer, after a millions efforts of reloading and printer software and comparing between two pcs, i determined it was windows finally after more updates in windows it finally recognized it.. seems to be all in order now thank you. Seems to be a common issue in new hps, I have another old hp works fine with it. works fine for macs, and upgraded to 7 on another worked fine. Crazy computers they will make you rip out your hair!
thank you for responding :)
