Need to lock desktop icons

September 13, 2010 at 06:17:08
Specs: Windows 7x64, 8GB
I've found a reg fix and it kinda works but I also have a monitor problem so I need another solution.

Is there a way of 'remembering' where my icons are placed so that when they get moved I can easily get them back to where I like them?

Asus P5Q Pro
Intel E5200@3.75mhz
8GB 800mhz pc6400
ATI 4870 1GB
X-Fi xtremegamer
RAID0

Simple answer: Take a screen shot of your desktop and save it somewhere.

Patriot PC2-6400 4Gig
MSI R4830

Copy then paste whats below to notepad, then click on "File>save as..." at the top, save it to the desktop. when you go to save it change the "Save as type" from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files" and name it anything with a .reg extension. then close everything and click on the file and choose "merge". also you want to make sure to add the part " Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00". that registry setting saves the position of items on the desktop when you shut down

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=hex(3):00,00,00,00

Sometimes on bootup the monitor does not turn on.
The power light just blinks.
If I unplug the power cord, unplug the monitor cable, wait 20/30 seconds, plug power back in then monitor cable then monitor is fine.
But desktop icons are all lined up on the left.

Tried iconrestorer but that didn't work so then tried Tufenuf's suggestion and that seems to be working.
Will know when next 'failure' occurs.
