Hello,
I have always owned Apple computers until now (I wanted to get a ridiculous amount of ram and processor speed without paying out my back end), so I'm slowly getting good programs for all of the things that i use my PC to do. However, I am having a terrible time finding a video conversion program that isn't ridiculously slow. I have Nero Vision, whatever the latest version is. It takes about 4 hours to convert and burn 4- 22 min Divx AVI files to a DVD. It uses a very small portion of my ram and processor power. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a very fast program to convert and burn a DVD from various video files. Or even a program just to convert quickly and another program that will burn them and just passthrough the video or that can generate vob files from mpeg-2. Maybe one that is written for 64-bit architecture.

Thanks,
Guy

64 bit may not help unless the program was compiled with newer tools and you have some advantage to using very large amounts of ram.

Basically you'd be better off with a hardware device. A chip or chipset that has native support. It may be that some of the new tv boxes have more processing ability that any home system has now.

You may be able to purchase a card or box that has hardware encoding in it too.

If I had a ton of ram I'd make a ram drive and run the program from there.

As for programs. I'd suspect that there are some web pages that have done tests on this.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

While converting from AVI to DVD is a slow process, 4 hours does seem a bit long.
Download the free DVDFlick, you simply drag your files into it, select option to burn dvd. It's about as easy as you can get.
