Solved My windows 7 laptop start menu will not appear when clicked.

November 26, 2017 at 00:38:22
Specs: Windows 7
When trying to access/click on my start menu (bottom left) it wont do anything. Its not the mouse as I can click on desktop files and access them.

Also when booting up, after password log on it stays on a black screen for ages even though the cursor is there and can be moved around.

Some antivirus apps have been know to cause this, so uninstall your antivirus software, restart and see if that fixes the issue (important: you must uninstall it, not just disable it).

If the issue is fixed, install a different antivirus.

You could consider System Restore (MS Windows) to a date/time before these things happened, if you have an appropriate restore point. It doesn't take long and preserves your own stuff.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

First, to get your desktop back, you can try this:
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL
Choose Taskmanager
Search the explorer.exe
If found explorer.exe click on it and end the task
Then click on File -> Run and type in explorer.exe
Now your Desktop should get started.

But, after reboot, you'll run into the same issue.

So when you're back on your Windows Desktop, you have to search for the issue, like virus or some programs that might be autostarted and may cause that problem.

I would boot into Safe Mode, then run System Restore to a date well before any shadow of a problem started (use 'show more restore points' if needed).
After it is back up run Malwarebytes with 'scan for root kits' checked off, remove all it finds, then let your antivirus do a full scan. Finally rescan with Malwarebytes.
Post back results and both logs from Malwarebytes (copy/paste).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
