Specs: windows 7 ultimate , 16gb ram, 3.2gz 6 core amd
my usb devices do not work after windows boots, but my usb keyboard works during start up, so i can enter start up, menu and gain bios feedback. ive had the computer for about 18 months, and it happened after the night after i used my iomega ego 500gb hard drive, and used norton 360 to back up my contents to this drive, i left it over night and once i came back my computer would not wake from sleep, so i pressed the power button and ever since none of my usb 2.0 devices no not work, such as my keyboard, mouse and iphone cable, however when i plug the external hard drive into my usb 3.0 port auto play starts. i have tried turning the power off completely and tried various combinations of where my keyboard and mouse are inserted to, but nothing seems to work. what would you suggest for me to do?

Buy a "mains-powered external USB hub" and plug it into the working USB 3.0 port. Now plug what you need into the hub.

The external hub needs to have at least four usb ports to replace the ports which don't work, and make sure it's mains-powered like this one:
