Solved My ping is really high

Specs: Windows 7
Ever since I got my new windows 7 computer (loaded with McAfee, which I still believe is the cause), my ping in almost all online games (and youtube...) has been through the roof (usually my latency in WoW never dips below 1000ms). Any ideas on how to fix it?

i dont get what you mean by the ping.....
what do you mean?

"My ping is all online games (and youtube...)"
if its a sound effect, is it popping up a window saying something about Adobe Flash Player?

✔ Best Answer
Ping originates from the ping sound familiar to anyone who ever been near a warship using its SONAR - SOund Navigation And Ranging. It sends out a sound pulse and measure the time it takes to return which gives an indication other ships, usually submarines in the vicinity. The shorter the ping return time closer the target is.

Ping on a computer does that same thing. The computer sends out a UTP packet to a named destination and measure the time it takes to return. Its only use is to confirm that the destination is on-line and responding. The lack of a response does not mean that the destination is unreachable, just that it is not responding. Unlike submarines, computers can be set to ignore UTP packets so nothing is returned.

The time it takes is subject to many variables, most out of the control of the originator. Not least of all the distance and the number of hops it has to go through to get to its destination and back again

One thing that is under the originaters control is the software running on their own computer. MacAfee is one of them as it is a bloated piece of software that slows everything down. Best to get rid of it and replace it with many of the free anti-virus applications available.

AVG and AVAST come to mind as well a Windows Defender which comes with Windows 7.

Is Avast or AVG free and good enough to protect my computer fully with no problems? I've had bad experiences with Windows Defender, as it pretty much let all viruses in...

Windows Defender IS NOT an Anti-Virus, it is for Malware.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials for AV:

Googling is quicker than waiting for an answer....
