If you can be more specific and include a brief history of problems (big ones usually start as a bunch of smaller ones) and it will be easier to tell where to start.
The first thing I would do is to restart it into Safe Mode and see it it freezes there. If it does not, that probably eliminates a hardware issue. That leaves driver, infection, too much running in the background, and maybe a few more.
Next I would do would be to run Malwarebytes (in safe mode) to check for malware that got past your antivirus program. Remove all it finds. Then update and run your antivirus program as well.
Next I would run a Disk Clean Up (computer, right click on Properties and select Disk Clean Up), select all check boxes and OK it.
Next I would run msconfig, go to Start Tab and uncheck all except Microsoft and your antivirus program. Apply and restart the machine.
If that fixes it, you are done. If not, I would restart in Safe Mode again and download and install updates for your drivers starting with motherboard and video.
If the problem was just after a program or update install, You can do a System Restore to a date before that. If you have run out of possibilities or you could not get Malwarebytes to run above, do the system restore followed by a scan with Malwarebytes.
Post back results and more details for more suggestions.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Is it freezing generally or only when you are doing some specific thing, like going online from a browser?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
