Can you explain a little more clearly what is connected to what.

What light(s) flashing - or not - where

Do you have a modem and a separate router; or the more common all in one router (ss usually provided by an isp)?

And to what does the other end of the ethernet cable connect?

Trav, did you read???? The OP is trying to connect an iphone to a modem using an ethernet cable No lights. That will definitely fail. :)

Note: for those of you who think I'm scolding Trvlr, I'm just yanking his chain.... all in fun. (insert big grin emoji here)

Doing the best I can here... And remember, there's always more than one path to success. :)

I did note there is an iPhone mentioned in the tag, but not mentioned in the post content itself.

The content of the post is that an ethernet cable is plugged into a modem - but doesn't say where the other end goes... Does it go to a route, or where?

No mention that it is attached to an iPhone - which of course it can't; not the least as there is no ethernet port/socket on an iPhone....

ahemmm, doesn't a reboot fix like 90% of all modem problems?

Simple solutions are often the best

I read "modem problems" as "modern problems".
