Typical reasons for the computer overheating are: fans not running, dust build up at vents, heat sinks, and fans, improperly mounted CPU heat sink, incorrect overclock settings and possibly others. How fast does it heat up? Desktop or Laptop? Things to try:
Use a compressed air can to blow out dust of vents, heat sink cooling fins, fans, corners of your case.
Make sure your fan(s) are running.
Install SpeedFan to monitor your temperatures real time to give you a better picture of what is going on.

If you are still having troubles post back your system specs including make model, modifications, and more details about the problem.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
