sounds like it may be a acpi issue/driver.
check your reliability monitor or event manager, see if your machine gives you a hint of what is happening, check your power options, are you set to hibernate/sleep/sutdown after 30mins?

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

Not sure what your definition of crash is but if the computer becomes unresponsive then check the power options in Control Panel. Your hard drive may be shutting down.

Look for any setting with a time frame that coincides with the "crash" times.

You may also need to change power settings in the BIOS screens.

Along those lines, if more than one of the 'power-down' options are set to the same time frame, then you many have a conflict set up (like hard drive is powering down at the same time that system or sleep is trying to happen and that might need a small amount of drive access to happen).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.

I had the same problem. It seems that when the PC is idle Norton Internet Security's Idle Time Optimizer runs a defrag of the C: drive, which stops immediately the PC is no longer idle. Ever since I disabled this from running I have had no further problems.
