my asus k70ab won't read burnt cd-r

Specs: Windows 7
I have an Asus K70AB I have just purchased it second hand.
it wont read burnt cd-r
it will read commercial cds and dvds just not cd-r and i assume dvd-r

i have tried multiply cd-rs and have tried the cd-rs in other computers they work fine just not in mine.

the optical drive is a tsstcorp 633c
can anyone help me, please?

There is a difference between CD-r and CD+r. Usually most can at least read the original CD-r, maybe yours cannot. Check the drive manufacturer's site for this info, also look to see if they have an updated driver, maybe that is your problem. If this is a desktop, CD/DVD drives are not that expensive, maybe look into replacing or adding a new drive. If a laptop, externals are still a possible option.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

hi and thanks.

1- its a laptop.
2- i have checked for up dates, it has the latest.
3- it reads commercial audio and dvd perfectly. it just wont read burnt cds. cds that other computers read easily. specifically i am trying to install win xp from a burnt disk. it opened and installed correctly on my other laptop. just not the asus.

i want to go back to xp becaue of win 7 and vista conflicts with dj software that i use.
its a cd-r

I have a K40IJ with the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT10N drive and it's no longer reading the CDs and DVDs that it burned before. It reads CDs and DVDs just fine.

There is a difference between CD-r and CD+r.

Hmmm....I thought only DVD's are -R & +R
