Multimonitor woes...Moving applications back and forth.

I need a way of previewing what's on my second monitor and having the ability to move windows to my main monitor. It happens that sometimes I use both monitors but when I move applications to the other monitor they default to it. You can see this becoming a problem when I don't use the other monitor. I'm looking into display fusion and applications like it, but I think I'm in search of something simplier, I just want a way to move an application windows to my first, when the second monitor is off, without having to turn it on.

Truth can become lie, but if lies become truth we're in trouble.

Have you set the dual monitor option (right click etc. on the desktop...) to simply expand the desktop across both screens? Or is one monitors set to be a mirror (duplicate display) of the other?

trvlr: expand desktop across the two screens

I still haven't found a better way other than having to "guess" with the mouse pointer and hoping win+left arrow (my main monitor is on the left of my second.) I guess it would have to be a window manager. Win+leftarrow will move it most of the time, if i guess the correct position of the programs windows I'm trying to move back to the left monitor.
