Multi Boot W7 And Ubuntu external USB drive

April 4, 2011 at 04:07:59
Specs: Windows 7
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 alongside my windows 7 Ultimate OS.
Now an external 1TB usb drive is working ok on Ubuntu but not in W7!
In W7 the device appears ok in device manager but does not show in Computer.
Also the drive appears in Printers and devices but unlike other external usb drives,
the only options are to eject drive while in the others the choice to browse files is present!

Try using the safe to remove drive feature, remove and restart and then plug it in again and see if it recognizes it properly. If this does not help, go to disk manager (do not format) and see how it is recognized there (Fat32, NTFS, or possibly 'other' as in Linux Native) and see if you can get it to assign a drive letter without formatting it from there.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Yes I went int Disk management and it was marked offline!
I rt clicked and selected online, then assigned a new letter to the drive! and success!
