Solved MSI U180 Netbook Screen Goes White

April 30, 2014 at 06:34:12
Specs: Windows 7

I have a MSI U180 and when it has been left idle for a while the screen goes - starting from one side - it is not a screen saver - you can't get it off unless your turn off the power to shut it down If you start it back up straight away it starts with the white screen. You have to leave it 5 ins or so then it starts fine.

I've run virus checks and it doesn't find anything - so is this a virus or something wrong with the netbook? I bought it form new in only in February.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be overheating of some of the components in the netbook.

Download and run HWMonitor in real time to see if that is the case. Get HWMonitor from the link below.

Not the symptoms of a virus.

Various possible causes such as the connectors each end of the cable connecting the screen to the computer. Fraying of the cable due to lifting and closing the lid is another possibility (sometimes changing as you move the lid).

Reads more like hardware so the video module is a possibility as is overheating already mentioned. I really doubt this is a software issue - drivers for example do not change with time.

If you have a warranty it might be well worth invoking.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks for the replies - I'll have a look at running program.

It is still under warranty - just need to dig out the receipt.

Overheating may not be covered by warranty if the unit is clogged up with dust and lint. Run HWMonitor to find out.
