That error usually means you have an illegal (non-genuine) copy of Windows 7 installed. It could also mean you picked up malware that is causing the error message even though Windows is actually genuine.

Try doing a google search for "build 7601 not genuine fix".

Build 7601 is a legitimate version of Windows 7. That doesn't mean your copy wasn't pirated. If the DVD was used on another computer and registered with Microsoft you can't use it too.

Your post is not clear. Are you saying you had Windows 7 running OK and then the next day you are getting a black screen?

Have you tried booting into Windows Safe mode?

I thought if you upgraded to Windows 10 for free you essentially voided the Windows 7 license. I could be wrong about that.

On the system panel (Control panel > Sytem) what does it say about the "Windows Activation" section?

Thank you for the help, I had windows 7 installed 2 years ago from a computer store I was using XP when I bought this computer. I had no problem with anything until I downloaded the windows 10 for free I didn't care for it and they had a link that allowed me to go back to windows 7 so I did but when I did it started giving me this error that the windows were not genuine and the black screen on the desktop. I hope I am giving you the right information to help me, he didn't give me a disk when he installed them, I can't install from a back up because the company I was using for back up stopped their service and I didn't get on there to get it. I can't do a restore because it doesn't allow a date before I downloaded windows 10, I am wondering if I go back and put windows 10 on again will that fix my problem or did I loose something when I went back to windows 7?
