mouse and keyboard randomly stop working windows 7

Specs: Windows 7
mouse and keyboard are not responsive on computer-this has happened once a day for four days now...computer is only a year old...also recently switched to Google Chrome......have to shut computer down completely and then they work

I agree with Johnw that let us know if it is a laptop or a desktop.

Also, are you using wireless mouse and keyboard?

If unresponsive keyboard & mouse happens at the same time, that means your computer is hangs, not necessarily keyboard or mouse problem.

Computer hangs could be caused by bad RAM, corrupted file system, registry or hard drive and overheating CPU.

Follow these steps to try to fix the problem:

1. Run Windows 7 memory diagnostic to check for possible memory problems.
2. Run Scandisk (tick the 'automatically fix file system error' & 'scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors').
3. Run CCleaner registry cleaner.
4. Check for CPU temperature in BIOS, or use Speccy to check for CPU temperature.
