Modem Init string to dial

August 10, 2010 at 10:34:25
Specs: Windows Vista
Is it possible to initialize my modem to dial "1" after it answers an incoming call? My phone is setup so that I need to dial "1" for a call to be routed through after I pick up the phone.

Have you used the hardware wizard to setup the modem?

I seem to remember that option being on all the internal modems I ever used.

I can't get into the hardware wizard. Windows 7 automatically sets up the modem for me. Can I change the answercommand Registry Keys to dial "1" after they answer? If so, what command could I use?

What are you using the modem to dial out for? That program should have the dialing options in it.

I don't understand your concern about changing the prefix settings after an incoming call. What does an incoming call have to do with an outgoing call?

Are you referring to a broadband modem using VOIP for telephone service?

Sorry if I keep confusing you. I'm not concerned with the modem functions when dialing out (sending a fax). I'm concerned with receiving a fax. I need to change the Answer Command of my modem to pick up an incoming call and press "1" after my modem picks up the call (receives an incoming fax).

Is your modem capable of both data and fax? What software are you using to send and receive faxes?

Yes, it's capable of data and fax. I am using Windows Fax and Scan but I can use any software if it makes it easier to solve my problem.

Windows 7 fax and scan settings can be accessed by the following:

Under control panel> printer and faxes select your fax device shown there. Click on new fax and look at the dialing rule box. That is where you can set the prefix and area code requirements.

Again, I'm not concerned with dialing out (sending a fax). I need to alter the rule when Answering a Call (receiving a fax).

I appreciate your help thus far but I'm still looking for a solution. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, not really,

I can't get my head around why you need to have this option.

For some reason I think I have heard of that before. It must have been 20 years ago. Not sure you can still find out how.

I can say it isn't a init string. It was a program that then sent either dial tone or pulses to the modem at off hook.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
