The product key on the back of your laptop it refers to the Operating System, not Microsoft Office. That Product key for MS Office comes on the installation disk.

Is this by chance a trial version that came with the computer that has since expired. If so you need to buy a licence key.

I wouldst post your product key on-line. Someone may pick it up and you may find it on a black list rendering useless if you ever need to re-install your operating system..

This was copied from another thread on a similar subject. I take it refers to this thread.

The laptop was new when purchased no previous owners. All the same what do I do to open the files?

As I said in my other post, if this installation came with the computer, you need to purchase a licence for it. There is no way to open the files without a legitimate copy of MS Office installed. Nobody gives MS Office away for free.

✔ Best Answer
If necessary you could consider free alternatives such as Open Office or Libra Office. These will save and open Word and Excel files.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
