perhaps you could help by giving us the names of some them and what application or office suite they belong to?

And are they shortcuts only, or the actual program files?
(If you've disabled shorcut arrows with a utility, right-click the icon and choose "Properties" - if there's no "Shortcut" tab it's not a shortcut.).

✔ Best Answer
IF everything on your desktop is important (unlikely) but many of them you rarely use, consider putting a few folders on the desktop and putting all of the icons/shortcuts into these folders (just the ones you only occasionally use). Group them according to what they are for and label the folder to help you find what you need easily (utilities, games, art programs, etc). All other simple files should be in your documents folder within other folders to organize them (pictures, music, work, school, art, etc.). Use subfolders generously to help you find things easier.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
