My thumbdrive has stopped being recognized by my Windows 7 Pro system. It was working but it just suddenly stopped recognizing it. Is there some Windows 7 option that can be changed so that it will recognize the thumbdrive when it is plugged in?

Try the drive with another computer. Most likely the drive has failed and needs to be replaced. You should be aware that flash drives are the least reliable of modern storage media. You should always have a backup copy of important data.
