Your ISP's homepage would generally provide instructions of setting it up, else Google is always there.

Depending on if you're trying to connect to a (home) network or the internet. Computers, including notebooks, typically connect wirelessly if the machine is equipped with a wireless adapter & you have a wireless modem/router. If not, you would need to plug your ethernet/network cable into the ethernet port of your machine to establish a wired connection.
