what caused this light colored section down the center of my laptop screen. There also is a bit of flickering. Everything else is working fine.

This sounds to me like the screen itself although the display module is another possibility.

Watch the screen then gently close the lid but not quite, then open it slowly again. If you see this fault change in any way then there's another possibility - let us know.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Nothing happened when I closed and opened the lid as directed. Anything else?

If you can beg or borrow an external monitor then try it. That will eliminate or incriminate the screen.

I hooked my laptop up to my desktop monitor and as I expected the light colored section did not show up. So it is something in the laptop.

It is just possible that one of the connections to the ribbon cable between the motherboard and the screen has worked loose (either end). Either that or it's the cable or the screen itself. Obviously the graphics module is working OK.

My guess is that when the problem is a narrow band on the screen, it
is *always* in either the video controller or the screen, so in this case
it is clearly the screen. I doubt that a poor cable connection could
affect only a narrow band.

traveler07,

The thread title says "4 wide". Is that 4 pixels? 4 centimetres?
4 inches?

Do you know what kind of screen your laptop has? I'm no expert on
this, but I'm curious if it uses LCD with backlights, LCD with LEDs,
or LEDs alone. I'd like to find out what kind of screen fault causes a
*light* band rather than a *dark* band. It seems to be fairly common.
My ancient (1998) laptop screen has a 1-pixel-wide bright vertical
blue line which extends from the top down to *near* the bottom.
Why it doesn't go all the way to the bottom is a puzzle.
