Specs: Windows 7
After installing a version of MS Office on my new laptop, I now have a large white box on my desktop. The box is about 7" x 7".
I saw the solution for other versions of Windows but cannot seem to solve on Windows 7.
Help is appreciated.

After installing a version of MS Office on my new laptop ...

Obviously the simple solution is to either uninstall whatever version of M$ Office you have installed, or else use System Restore back to the time before you installed it.

Yes. I did a system restore to a time just before I installed MS Office (v. 2003). The white box was gone. After I reinstalled the same version of office, the box came up again. I saw some other posts about this here on this site with recommendations to take some steps through desktop properties. However, they were for different versions of Windows and I was not able to follow those same directions.
Any other ideas?

I believe that 2003 version of Office is not compatible with Windows 7, If you do not want to buy the newer version of office, try installing Openoffice instead from www.openoffice.org
It is FREE, it can read Office files, save AS office compatible files (when needed) and create PDF files also. and includes everything that you would get in office except email which you can get mozilla thunderbird for free also that will take care of that. ( I believe it's at www.mozilla.com/thunderbird )

I have both
Office 2003 and 2007 installed on my win 7 machine. It is not a compatability issue.

With the big white box on your desktop can you still fully access your computer? If so check for updates to Office. If not uninstall and check with microsoft.
