Anything happen lately that might cause a hard-drive failure, or is there a optical disc in its' drive? The message indicates that it can't find a bootable device.

Normally the hard-drive may be set first, but if there's a non-bootable CD/DVD in it's drive, and the optical-drive is set to boot first, the "insert boot disk & press any key" message appears. If that's not the case, then it appears your HDD could be failing or has already failed.

Or usb flash disk. Laptop may come with first boot device option like

Removable disk (USB flash or hard disk) - CD drive - HDD
