Laptop screen goes black for just a second

January 16, 2011 at 23:37:34
Specs: Windows 7
Hey, so my Toshiba Satellite is less then three months old and tonight it started acting up. In the last 3-5 hours the screen has gone black for just a second then comes back to normal, this has happened 4 times. I keep it on my bed or in the lap but make sure it's aired out well and the bottom doesn't feel too hot. I'm also not playing intense games or anything.

Any ideas to what the problem could be?

Thanks a bunch!

Try it on a hard surface, just because the bottom does not feel hot, the internal components may be getting hot. You absolutely need to allow air to flow IN from the bottom air vents which cannot happen easily with the laptop on a soft surface. If it works fine on desk, get yourself a laptop cooler so you can use it other places. If it still acts up on a desk, return it under warranty while you have a chance (back up our files first).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

The thing is I've used it on my bed many times before and it's never acted up so I don't know why it would now.

constant over heating can wear out the components slowly, fans and vents can get blocked up by dust, especially in the bedroom, try b;owing vacuuming all the vents, and follow fingers advice its it workd ok on a hard surface you know you have caused over heating issues, so just use it on a hard surface

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

Ever think of contacting Toshiba as it should be under warranty? Why fool with it before then...it is NOT heating up, you may have gotten a lemon. Ask for a replacement.
Response #3 is obviously thinking of an older laptop. Yours is to new for that to happen.
Get it replaced before the warranty runs out.

If they say they will repair it at the factory, be sure to save all your important documents and pics as they will surely wipe the drive before sending it back to you. I'm echoing response #1 on that.
