Laptop randomly shut off, internet wouldn't connect

Specs: Windows 7
Why can't my laptop connect to ANYTHING?!

I was watching a movie and then it needed to be charged, so I plugged it in but it wouldn't charge at all and kept saying "Battery Mode" "AC Mode" Over and over so I thought it was a lose connection. After a few moments of trying to make it charge, and then it just randomly shut off.
I was kinda startled, so I turned it back on and next thing I see, there's no connection. So I right clicked on the icon and chose "Trouble Shoot this" and it came up immediately with "No problems found!"
I have NO IDEA what's up with it. I've tried to restart it and ended up plugging in the blue cable from my router into my laptop to make this...

Any help with the internet problems and the charger not working?

Hello Sara,
first:
Are you talking about laptop or desk PC? When laptop then maybe overhault? Let any IT man check your computer and say is the problem in temperature.

What kind of surge protection did you use when you plugged in your laptop?

@hrjohn it's a laptop and I ended up showing it to my dad.. It's still not fixed and he thinks there's a virus on there, but the comodo firewall has been uninstalled? I didn't do it and the computer wont let him reinstall it. He can't even run an online virus check when plugged into the router.
It's had temperature problems before and I'm aware of those, but they've never made the internet drop out and have no connections.

@Razor2.3 I didn't have a surge protector on my laptop, only on the PC. I don't think it was a power surge, my brother was on his laptop and nothing happened to his one.
