Specs: Windows 7
Hi all, my laptop will not let me type my password on my login screen. When I enter f8 to recovery I can use my password so the keyboard is working. I have tried basic recovery but it has not fixed the problem. Any one have any ideas, I have been on the Samsung website but have not found it any help.

is this a new problem? try entering bios and setting it to default, if you can got onto safe mode with f8, your key board is obviously working, maybe its been changed to different layout, us. english something else//
check the drivers and updates, run a system restore

Thanks for your reply, This is a new problem. I have made sure the keyboard is set for the UK. I used the recovery system, backed up the drives externally, and did a complete restore but when it had finished, the problem has still not been solved. the keyboard will still not work on login screen. Managed to get the onscreen keyboard to come up but that does not work either. Any more ideas please?

go into bios and set it to default settings.

as the keyboard works in safemode, but not in normal mode, i would assume that the keyboard is been run by the OS.
try installing the chipset and other drivers from the original cd that came with your machine, or from the samsung site.
it appears your mouse works
if that fails and the machine is still under warranty RMA it back for repair.
or you could take off the password, so that the machine boots directly into windows, and bypass the password input, see if the keyboard works in win7 normally, then you will be closer to identifying the problem

Once again thankyou for your reply, I can get into safemode but again when the login screen appears I still cannot use the keyboard. I have been into the bios and set it to default but it has not made any difference. On the password side of things. There are no passwords set that I know of. It says that admin password is clear. User password is clear. I have tried logging in with just pressing Enter but that does not work either. On the actual login screen that I cannot get passed, the username is mine but I cannot change it to any other name.. It just highlights and still says my name. Sorry to be a pest but any other ideas? : (

in the original post you say you can use the keyboard to get into in safe mode, does it then stop working?
have you tried connecting a usb keyboard to your machine?
connect and then boot, go to safe mode then connect.
if these fail;
as its a laptop you may have to do a factory restore, assuming that the last restore you did was a system restore.
a factoiry restore will wipe the c; drive and reinstall to the day you bought the machine, this will cancel out any possible software issues, if the key board still fails then its the hardware., however be aware that you will lose all files on the c; drive when doing a factory restore, try tapping the F4 key while booting up, it will if your very lucky bring you to a restore screen, and from there follow the instructions.
if that fails yo will have to return the machine, or take it apart and check that all connections are still good. usially just a small plug or tape connection for the keyboard, they can come loose, however you did write earlier that keyboard works under some circumstances.
