laptop freezes

Specs: Windows 7, 4 gb
laptop freezes very frequently when i plug my network cable for connecting to the internet.
the laptop is new and never hangs otherwise.

you said it is new? That's your BIGGEST clue. Take it back under warranty and ask them to replace it. Sounds like a hardware issue.

actually it has crossed its warranty period its been abt 4 months
am nt being able to track where's the problem

if you plug in the network cable and start the computer does it hang?
is the socket on the laptop loose?
do you have an ip address or other settings setup in your networking, or do you get the ip address automatically from what ever network you connect too.
4 is very short for a warranty, one would expect 1yr on a new machine.
can you connect via blue tooth/wifi?

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

no neither the socket is loose nor the pc hangs immediately after connecting ,,,,, but ya it hangs randomly .
sometimes after 5 min , sometimes after an hr or so,,,
i do get a warning from hp system maintenance "Atheros lan wire"

is that the only words on the message?
does this happen when you connect to different networks?
have you tried another cable?
have you tried another port on the router/modem?
right click on my computer, choose manage/events, see if you can more info on the problem from the error reports..

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

no i havent tried any other cable or modem, i think i'll better take it to the hp service center .......
