laptop freezes on startup

Specs: Windows 7
I will start my laptop which is an HP, and when i get to where my password is, it will completely freeze. On the rare occasion, i can get my password in but it will freeze soon after. :(

tap the f8 button at boot, choose last known good config/repair or finally system restore one of the 3 should work.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

Unfortunately, that didn't work. I went into system diagnostics and clicked on start-up diagnostics, and I received "Short DS Failure"

best contact the seller and hopefully its still under warranty. this is a hard drive issue and would normally happen on a drive a few years old and tired and worn, you can buy a new hard drive and hopefully do a data copy from the old drive, (although its not likely) you can also buy a drive, they are very cheap and easy to refit, then contact the manufactirer explain your situation and buy a recovery dvd, for around 30$ if your lucky.
you may also be able to get some data from the old drive by connecting as an external drive to another machine.
