Laptop black screen with cursor on topside

Specs: Windows 7
toshiba laptop will not start normally. screen is black, blank and has a curser on the top side. Am not able to login.

i had same problem.. your system files are corrupted... all that you can do is reinstall the os... if you dont have the back up of the ubuntu cd with out installing it and take the back up.. then go for the os reinstallation.. you can freely dwld ubuntu from its official website..its free of cost..
ubuntu is a type of linux.. but very similar to windows7...

You may be able to do a repair from a recovery disk or you recovery partition on your hard drive, worth trying first. Just remember that if you see the option of a factory restore, this will reinstall as new and wipe off your entire drive, so as above, save you files first.
Give more details if you can, it may help.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
