New batteries or batteries that have been in storage for a long time, only need a few extra hours charging at most. The only way to charge the laptop battery is in the laptop using the power cord that came with the laptop or a suitable replacement. The laptop does not need to be on during the charging. If you are charging a completely run down battery, it is best to let it charge before turning the laptop on for 30 minutes or more (15 minutes at the absolute minimum), but do not unplug the charger until it is fully charged, even if you turn the machine back off or put it to sleep. If it is not charging or you think it might not be properly charging, see if someone you know has a similar model from the same company and you might be able to borrow their power cord to test everything.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
