You don't say how you are going about it.

Go here and see what version it says you have got:
http://java.com/en/download/testjav...

Right now it should be "Version 6, Update 27".

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

First noticed the problem in Chrome (W7), when the latest update would ask to be installed (a couple of weeks back), and it complained, upon being given permission to install, that it was already installed. It wasn't. The installer then asked if we wanted to re-install it, and we gave permission and it said unable to install and ... end of story.

We then removed Java and Chrome completely using the W7 Program (de)installation tools. Still no luck We reinstalled Chrome, but Java would still not install -- same scenario. We every last reference to Java from the registry using ccleaner. we manually removed the Chrome directories under the AppData directory.

Still no luck, and Java install craps out the same way.

???
