Is this the latest Welcome forum please? I'm Bri-fromB65UK

Specs: Windows 7 Professional, intel core
Hi everyone, newbies here from Rowley Village Staffs. And I have just noticed that last year Derek said - ''My 80th looms up this month'' – mine is a few months earlier. My wife first bought me a Windows Vista PC in 2008, now trying Windows 7 and still on a 'learning curve' unfortunately. On here we also have a treasured scrapbook of memories back to 1940s, and tomorrow hope to ask a question about how to retrieve items from an external hard drive?
Brian

Welcome from one of many Brits/Canucks here..

Retrieving content from an external hard drive is pretty straightforward.

Is the external drive in its own case and designed for usb connection?

Also make/model of your once Vista (now win-7) computer?

Yep, welcome aboard - I remember "Hanley" and "Stone" from times gone by but I live in Kent.

Just fire away. Ideally the Windows 7 forum would be the place for this one but all the natives are friendly LOL.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thank you for welcomes, sorry for delay replying. Hope it's ok to follow up here for now.

Thanks, but seems I've messed it up clicking-on the wrong options available.

''Is the external drive in its own case and designed for usb connection''?

Yes, a Toshiba 500GB with usb connection.

''Also make/model of your once Vista (now win-7) computer''?

I'm only using this 'new' Win7 laptop now, a 64bit Dell Latitude E6410Professional because having problems with Vista laptop.

What did you save on it, pictures, videos?

Did you save them yourself as you go or were you using some backup software which came with the external drive?

If all else fails you should be able to find pictures (for example) manually like this:

Usually you plug in the hard drive and if it does not ask you what you want you to do then you just go to My Computer and double click on the drive there and it opens up to show you all files/folders that were saved to it.
If it was saved via a back up program we need to know what program it was saved with (Windows back up, etc.)

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
