Updates are cumulative. Each one assumes you have something else already and often tests to see if it is there already, if not it may add components from a prior one that is needed during the install. When I just installed SP1 for Windows 7, it showed a range of MB's that it would have to download, depending upon what updates I already had. It turned out that I was up-to-date so I needed the lowest number to download, but if I had not been, it would have been up to three times the download to completely install itself. Only uninstall an update if it caused a problem on your system. If you uninstall any now and then add SP1, then you will only be reinstalling them all over again. Service Packs are unique in this, so this will not always be true as not all updates need many of the prior ones, and any improvements in a prior update will make whatever changed are needed with the new one.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
