IPv4: Internet IPv6: No Internet access

April 1, 2011 at 01:21:04
Specs: Windows Vista
I'm using Sony Viao VPCW216AG w/ Windows 7.

I have been having this problem for a long time where I can only get internet access when a broadband USB modem is connected. I have not been able to connect with WiFi areas or wireless connections.

It would only show that

IPv4 Connectivity: Internet
IPv6 Connectivity: No Internet access

I'm not sure if I have to disable IPv6 for me to gain Internet access. As I have read a column that it is compatible with Home group. I have attached the thread's link.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

IPV6 will not be the cause of your problem. Almost certainly your router and ISP are not IPV6 enabled, which explains the message, but you should get IPV4 connectivity. The wireless question is a different problem.

I guess the first question (the manual will tell you) is whether your laptop has a switch, or key combination, to disable the wireless card. This option is often provided to prolong battery life when wireless networking is not required.

Make sure that this is switched on, and then check if you see any wireless networks. If so, what happens when you try to connect? Any error messages at all?
