Solved Internet Explorer does not work nor can it be uninstalled.

August 15, 2013 at 10:40:01
Specs: Windows 7, IntelQuadcore 2.8 GHz
Internet Explorer does not work nor can it be uninstalled. When I run IE? the window comes up and then directly disappears. I don't know which version is installed. When trying to install IE10 I get error message that "there is a newer version already installed" and the installation is stopped. I tried to uninstall the old version from Control Panel, with Revo Uninstaller and CCleaner Uninstall, but that doesn't work because there no mention of it in any of the three.

Have Avast Free running, but found a lot of problems with the Quick Scan of Malwarebytes and removed all. Still no go.

What more can I do ? Thanks for any help.

Hi willem1933,

Try opening internet explorer in safe mode.

If it works fine in safe mode, perform a clean boot to troubleshoot the issue. Please refer to the link mentioned below:

Go to Control panel> Programs and Features> View installed updates. Then look for all versions of Internet Explorer that are installed. Post back what you have installed.

Best avoid Revo for this as it might remove some vital system files. See the previous posts instead.

EDIT: Make sure Programs and Features is set to show all updates.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I'm really sorry to have wasted your time, There appeared to be much more problems on my machine. For this reason I RESET an image I had previously made. But apparently a check from Microsoft about the legality of my Win 7 was legal was not in that image, so I had to re-register my OS again. After this I made a new image, which I hope I will not need to use in the future. Thanks for all your efforts.
