I have a couple of computers running Windows 7 that will run into issues renaming folders on a network drive. I used Process Explorer to narrow it down, and found that Internet Explorer was "locking" those folders. I put locking in quotes because, the folders were not actually locked, if I went to another computer and renamed them, it wasn't an issue. As soon as I closed IE, I was able to rename them. My question is, does anyone have any idea why this would happen. There are no files in this folder that would be opened in IE, no links in a webpage or email would lead to this folder. I am lost on why it would "lock" a folder that it had no interaction with.

There's a Microsoft "fix-it" here which seems to echo your problem. The page also includes instructions to fix it manually with a registry edit (take care if you use that method). Although it makes no mention of Internet Explorer, it's still worth a try. The fix won't do any harm if it doesn't work: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/202...
