Install XP virtual machine on Laptop with Win7

Specs: Win XPPro onto Win7Pro, 119.99 Gigabytes
Install XP virtual machine on Toshiba Laptop with Win7 Professional. TOSHIBA Satellite L510 PSLQ0A-030003.
Win7 can't read Help menus made in Win Help Menu format so I want to do the above and need help.
I was told to download VMware which I've done and to download XP which I think I've done.
When I click the XP shortcut on on the desktop the Toshiba Disc Creator window comes up with a range of empty folders, which are obviously on Win7, and the XP icon. This will be to make a useable CD. I have XP on the Cyclone tower PC and although I can't find the original disc I do have its Key Number. What do I do now?
Is anyone able to walk me on from here?
If more info is needed I do have a report from Belarc's scan from yesterday.

See the link below. VMWare and Windows 7 virtual PC are not the same thing. Windows 7 professional is eligible to download and run a special copy of WinXP in a virtual mode, which you also download from Microsoft. All instructions are included. Some laptops can't run Windows Virtual PC.

If you are downloading a copy of WinXP from somewhere else it is not a legal copy and we can't help you with that.
