Specs: Windows XP
How do you install printer drivers on win7 in the compatability mode when and ".exe" file is required?

Problem will not install printer drivers for the XP shared printer.

You can't install drivers like that. Compatibility Mode is only for applications and games. You have to install a driver that's compatible with the version of Windows you are installing it on.

If there is no compatible driver for that version of Windows, you can't use the printer on that version of Windows, shared or otherwise.

Sometimes you can use drivers from a similar model. You may not get all the bells & whistles but basic printing will work. What make and model printer is it?

ALSO, Windows may have basic drivers already built in that will work with many more popular older printers (many HP and other older printers do not have W7 drivers available for them).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I did have this win 7 computer using the shared XP printer. I lost the XP computer during a village wide power problem. A back up XP was installed now I can find the additional drivers need but the were present on my old XP computer.

Solved: I changed the printer driver of the DI2010 to a "Minolta Di2010 PCL5e" using a Win XP computer using a USB connection. Then removed the USB printer cable and reconnected to a Network.
On the WIN 7 computer I installed "add printer" then Local Printer, then Create a new port, then Standard TCP/Ip port, then entered the local printer IP address. when it came time to select the new drivers the computer automatically choose the universal driver for the correct driver. I had previous tried universal driver the previous day which failed.

here is a list from the Windows printer Test Page

Driver Name: unidri.dll
config file: MNW2K_M6.GPD
HELP FILE : UNIDRV.HLP
Driver version: 6.00
Enviorement: Windows x64

additional files used by this driver:

C: \windows\system32\spool \DRIvER5\x64\3\MNW2KxLN .DLL (vbl_wcp_d2_drivers .060801—2007))
