Solved In Device Manager the entry for Ports is missing.

September 17, 2013 at 08:30:18
Specs: Windows 7
I'm running Windows 7 on an Acer Aspire 5741
Originally "Ports" was present in the Device Manager window. But I had to use the recovery discs to re-initialise after getting "locked out" of the computer.
Since then "Ports" is missing from the Dev. Mgr. window.
How do I recover them, please.

You will only see ports in Device Manager if you have either an RS232 Serial Port or a Printer Parallel port. Both these devices are rare on a modern computers.

If you had Ports previously then you must have had one of these devices which has since been removed.

I have one entry under ports on my computer but that is because I have a Serial to USB adaptor installed. There are no RS232 or Parallel ports.

Thanks for your reply, Stuart.

Your info triggered the grey cell-I had previously installed a USB-RS232 converter & its driver.
I have now found the program disc.

Many thanks
