Specs: Windows 7
My Toshiba Satellite P500 shuts down when the lid is closed. I am using Windows 7. When I open the lid the screen looks like it in powering up and the power button is lit. The screen goes blank and If I wait long enough, or move the mouse, the unit shuts down and restarts but with the "computer was improperly shut down screen". My power options are on 'sleep' for closing the lid.

check that both win 7 and laptop power app have the same settings, it may be that one is interfering with the other.
also check all devices in device manager at set to sleep, or allowed to be managed by the computer.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

Does this happen every time you are in sleep, or just when you leave it there for hours or overnight?
Sleep is for short periods of time since working memory is held in RAM and that takes some power to keep it there. Over time held like that you may loose enough to cause errors or shut down. Use Hibernate for longer than a few minutes through a few hours, but use shut down for overnight since even hibernate will use some battery power and you can still get a build up of windows little errors that needs starting fresh. Look at:

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
