Specs: Windows 7
can you image a pc without connecting to a wds server

i need to image a large number of PCs with wim image files. unfortunately, i will not be able to pxe boot to the wds server. i know that with symantec ghost, i can boot to ghost with a thumb drive and then point to an image on a external HD. is there a way to do this using a .wim file? is there a stand alone version of WDS that would work like this?

The windows 7 (nt60) installation DVD boots a wim called SOURCES/BOOT.WIM, you could replace it with the wim you want to boot, and recompile it, if you know how to do that. Also, there is a freeware program called EasyBCD that is an nt60 boot editor, it can add booting of any wim file you want to the bootup menu of the windows 7 machine. EasyBCD can add boot options for grub, and anything else you have on your system.
