i'm running w7 32 bit can i upgrade to w7 64?

Specs: Windows 7
Hey, my name is Johnny.

I'm currently running w7 32 ultimate setup. I would like to upgrade to 64 bit because I have 8 gigs of ram but im only using 3 gigs... So i want to switch over to get the full usage.

Thing is... I hear that you need to completely wipe your hard drive and start with XP 64 then vista 64 then finally w7 64.

Is this true? or can I keep my current setup and just run a w7 64 bit OS and format like that.

Appreciate the help! Looking forward to some answers.

Well, I rather doubt you will get any improvement unless you are using high end apps or maybe some of the latest games.

You can't upgrade, it is a clean install.

This assumes you will be able to get every driver you need or able to buy new hardware.

This also assumes your programs will load and run in 64 bit.

Well, im a pretty hardcore gamer... I play the latest games.

My specs:

Quad Core2.51 ghz
8 gig ram
Radeon HD 5770 1gig ddr5 vid card

So just re-installing win7 64 bit clean install would ok?

It is the usual way.

If you want you can create an image before you do it in case you want to go back.
