IE8 file download not getting focus

October 14, 2012 at 20:48:21
Specs: Windows 7
From Oracle R12 E-Business on Win 7 using IE8.
When a user clicks on a link to a file attachement, IE8 shows the file download popup but the focus remains on the main browser window and the cursor becomes an 'egg timer'. The user can not click on any of the open browser windows. If the user clicks the desktop the focus is switched from IE8. The user can then click the pop-up window and perform the required action.
This also happens when using Win XP and IE8.

Is this an IE8 feature that can be fixed ?

Well I personally would suggest you use Chrome, but Chrome does have times when it's useless itself. So other than changing from the internet application that you're using I would recommend that you open the task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) to see if you can force the download window to stay on top or right click and copy the address to a new tab. If none work, then it's time to upgrade to IE9 or Chrome.

The standard browser is limited to IE8 at the moment - Company Standards Policy
