icons on my desktop just started to flicker

May 5, 2011 at 23:09:47
Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, ES400@ 2.70GHz/ 6GB
icons on my desktop just started to flicker, they don't move or disappear or anything like that, but it's annoying. Here is what it looks like--say you are d/l a new version of adobe, you can see your icon flicker when this happens, so that is what my whole desktop looks like when it happens. I have not installed or removed anything. I haven't made any changes, any ideas why this might be happening?

I would take a look at what's loading when you start windows. It's possible that there's a program that's causing windows to not run correctly.

1. Click on the Windows 7 start icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.

2. Type MSCONFIG in the search box and then either press enter on your keyboard or double-click on the MSCONFIG program that appears in the search results.

4. Windows 7 will launch Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.
This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer.

I would disable everything except your antivirus and then reboot your pc and see if the problem persists.

Hi William,

I did as you suggested, then rebooted. It has been approximately 30 minutes and I haven't seen one flicker. Not sure why it happened all of a sudden, but whatever it was, is now gone.

Thanks so very much for your reply and your easy to understand fix for my problem.
