I really just want to say THANK YOU!!! Like, seriously, thank you!!

And to repost an old post so this will come up in more searches--took me awhile to find it. God, this was driving me NUTS!!!

Thank you for the solution!! FYI, the 2nd solution is the one that worked for me (had to restart the computer)

My image files icons thumbnails suddenly have a blue box with two white arrows (chevrons) attached to each one on the lower left hand side. Does anyone know how I can get rid of them?

Found my problem in Norton 360 The blue boxes with the two white chevrons (arrows or greater than symbols) are to show the backup status of folders and files. Once I turned off the automatic backup option in Norton the blue boxes went away.

I also encountered this problem, and I turned off the automatic back up, but the blue boxes with the white chevrons remained over the photo thumbnails. There is an option in Norton 360 to turn off the backup status overlays (Blue boxes). This must be selected to remove the overlays. The automatic backup can remain on, and if the backup status overlays are turned off, the icons will no longer be placed on the files that Norton is scheduled to back up.
