Solved I was trying to open a program and it didn't work so I tried

Specs: Windows 7
I was trying to open a program and it didn't work so I tried "right click" then "open with.." then I chose a program to open it with. The next thing I know, all icons on the desktop have changed to that program I've set for only one file and none is opening porperly anymore. So please I wish to know how to make all icons work with the same program they initially were working with because now none is working.

IS there some reason you didn't tell us what type of file it is? Do you have the file extensions turned on so you know the type of file you're working with?

You apparently didn't pay attention when doing the "open with" & changed the default. There's a check box for "always use the selected program" that you should have unchecked. Now all files with that particular file extension will open (or try to open) with the program you selected. Repeat the process but this time, select the program that should be used for opening that particular type of file - make sure the box is checked.

What's happened is you have set all your shortcuts (lnk files) to open with a particular program. That's why none of your shortcuts work and they've all changed to the same icon.

System Restore might fix it (unless you disabled it):

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

✔ Best Answer
Try the LNK fix from here:

If not try the EXE fix from the same website.

System Restore, already given, is another option.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
