all my files were opening in vlc. but i fixed it. now even when i reinstall vlc it changes everything to vlc. can someone help me please?
Where did you get VLC player? Did you download it from a 3rd party site or directly from the VLC site? And which anti-virus program are you using? You say you system isn't infected but if you're using a garbage program for protection, it very well could be infected & you wouldn't even know it. If you're scared to use fixexec, you can manually fix each & every file association, but it will take some time. Right click on the file, select Open with, then click Choose default program.... You can then pick the program you want to use from the list. Make sure the Always use the selected program box is checked, then click Apply.
You should also have the Hide extensions box unchecked under Folder Options in Control Panel.
You mean all your media files changed as a VLC application?
not only the media application. other programs like google chrome, run, viber, microsoft package etc. etc. message edited by marksloan
Any restore points set prior to the date/time?
are you sure that the fixexec will help to install vlc or any other media player? and my computer is not infected with virus. message edited by marksloan
"and my computer is not infected with virus." Are you absolutely sure? In all my many years of installing and using VLC I have never seen it do this. Not to say it's completely impossible, but it seems highly probable that you have not downloaded it from a legitimate source but from a website that injected a virus or malware into the installer.
fixexec will not help you install any media player, it is a file association fixer.
